Jewel Runaway Bay Golf Club

St Ann, Jamaica

The Runaway Bay Golf Course, par 72 and 6,870 yards, was designed by British Naval Commander John Harris and opened in 1960. After a spell under the Superclubs banner it was rebraned in June 2102 as the Jewel Runaway Bay beach and Golf Resort.
Over the years very few golfers have managed to tame this course, except perhaps for the long hitting Seymour Rose, the resident professional since the course's early days, who holds the course record of 62.

Definitely not easy, but a most enjoyable course to play, with pleasant views and luxury villas around the perimeter of the course. The greens are fairly large, fast and well bunkered. The fairways are designed to catch and penalize errant shots ... easy to produce with the wind as strong as it is, becasue like all courses on the North coast wind is a major factor, reaching speeds of 30-40 mph.

I have always enjoyed playing Runaway Bay, and can highly recommend the course, and the friendliness of your reception is unmatched anywhere.

Major international tournaments, including the Jamaica Open Golf Championship and the World Cup of Golf Qualifier have been held here, and it has been the venue for a lot of local amateur tournaments.

Over the years several changes have been made, including a change in the order in which holes are played. The most recent improvement has been the addition of a tunnel to go from the clubhouse to the course so as to avoid crossing a busy road.
