Cambridge was born in Mandeville Jamaica in 1949, and started his
golfing career when 10 years old as a caddy at the 9-hole course at the
In 2000 he was the first Jamaican to play on the European Seniors PGA Tour, where he has had some notable successes.
Watching golfers such as Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer on the television, motivated Delroy to give golf a go, and he started playing five rounds a day on this intriguing 9 hole golf course.
Self taught, there was always something within him driving him to get better, and he worked extremely hard on improving his game.
Renowned as one of Jamaica's "long hitters" Delroy Cambridge turned professional in 1971.
He says "I did not quite realise how much patience and time you need, and golf has taught me discipline. It is a wonderful way to meet new people. and I have learnt to respect the game".
Delroy was offered an opportunity to work as an assistant professional at Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, New York, and he started playing in local and regional events in the New York area.
In 1994 he won the Westchester Open.
In 1998 he won the Jamaica Open.
He represented Jamaica in the World Cup on three occasions in 1996, 1998 and 2006.
He has won five European Seniors PGA Tour tournaments, and and he made the top twenty-five on that tour's Order of Merit every year from 2001 to 2006, with a ranking of third in 2002, and he is still playing on this tour, although he now lives with his wife and children in Florida.
